Entire work is made of Wheat Bread
(Food Art)
Concept:
Bread can be a very simple meal for anyone to fill up their empty stomach. It serves to provide people as a food resource, keeping people full and warm. The texture of the bread reminds me of a fluffy cozy carpet that can be lying on the doorstep, allowing us to rest our legs there for a moment before entering the house. Wheat bread is chosen to have a neutral color like most brown carpet. This work aims to create a carpet and to display it around the house, moving it from one place to another . (etc, door step, bedroom, toilet) Each time when I stepped into a 'new boundary', my footprints will be left behind.
The prints are clearly shown on the carpet. It marks my trace and space.

Title: Ladder (2)
Year: 2012
Medium: Black Paper
Artist Statement
My father was a lifetime Buddhist painter and was unfortunately being converted into a Christian at the very last end of his life.
Buddhist believed, mourners have to cross the bridge and walk around in circles during funeral, it signifies the way for the dead to reach Heaven.
In western, a ladder, signifies stairway to heaven as well.
An incomplete Bridge and a broken ladder, both therefore signify a broken connection and direction in any religion.
In other words, the dead is unable to reach his Final Ideal Destination; Heaven.

Viewers have to peek through the Peekhole on the door.
Through the peek hole, these are the objects that the viewers will see.
Title: The Last Connection
Year: 2011
Medium: Paper
Artist StatementThis is a continuation work installation, after the series of ladders sculptures.
Also, it is the final piece that marks an end to the relationship between me and my father who passed away, in the work of art.
“The last time, I ever saw him, is through my dream.
He was dressed in all white, standing outside our house.
I opened the door and I left the gate remain locked.
And we stared at each other for minutes...
no smile, no emotions ... expressionless.”
A closed door is a representative of realising the boundaries between the 2 different worlds.
Alternatively, is also represents ‘closing the door to the past’.
“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”

Title: Reunification in Dreams
Year: 2011
Medium: Mixed Medium
When 2 different countries and different cultures meet.
Through this installation, I am making a connection with this unfamiliar country by having my personal bed to interact with a German's bed.
Each bed represents individual country.
Symbolically, they protrays an "image" of what a country 'is'.
" A country is like a Bed, it provides people with warm and to make them feel safe."
Using dream symbols/elements to represent the relationship between the country and its people.
Bed represents the bridge between the conscious and the unconscious; a need to rest.
Designed in a way to provide support and comfort, denotes security and restoration.
Artist StatementThis work is inspired by my recurring dream.
On many nights, I have dreamt of myself committing suicide on a high-rise building.
This dream is a constant reminder of my insecurities.
It is a warning sign for me to further rediscover myself.
Derived from a previous work made up of a single transparent ladder,
the installation consists of a dream-like scene of nine ladders.
They are displayed so that they seem to be falling onto the viewers.
This creates a sense of anxiety and helplessness that is often felt in relation to the common phobia of fear of falling.
The sense of unease and uncertainty is further heightened by the materials used in the work. At the same time, they question and reconsider
the significance of an object that usually symbolizes strength and stability.
